Description

This is a rare early example of the Kamm Tail, often referred to as the S2, Spider being fitted with the 1750 version of Alfas venerable twin cam as opposed to the more common 2.0 unit. The 1750 is considered among aficionados of the marque regularly cite the 1750 as the ‘sweet spot’ for these engines.

The car we have here has been with the same owner for the past 19 years. She is only for sale now as he feels he has had his fun with her and is ready to try another Alfa. Previously a mechanic by trade, during his ownership she has benefited from exhaustive maintenance, including an engine rebuild 15 years ago. As all the work was carried out by himself over the years there are no invoices for labour, however all the parts used during his ownership have been purchased from Classic Alfa and the pile of invoices is an inch thick.

A genuine UK supplied car from new, she was built in 1971 and supplied on the 1st August 1971, complete with the registration ACV 10K in the colour scheme she still presents in to this day.

The history is presented in an A4 binder containing old MOT’s, invoices and various correspondence and also a nice selection of restoration photos detailing an extensive body restoration in 1996 by well known and respected Alfa Romeo restorer MGS Coachworks. The invoice for this, along with matching photos are in the file and included;

  1. Strip car of all trim, lights, interior etc.
  2. Bare metal body.
  3. Removal of all 4 wings, rear panel, spare wheel well, both sills & replace with brand new panels.
  4. Cut out and carry out localised repairs to floor pan and chassis as required.
  5. Prepare, fill and etch prime car.
  6. Carry out full repaint in the original colour.

Over the past few years she has, in addition oil/filter changes, had the following mechanical parts replaced, while also having some cosmetic trim items replaced in the interests of keep her looking in fine fettle. Of note are:

  1. Clutch hydraulics.
  2. Front brake discs & pads.
  3. New battery.
  4. Foot washer pump.
  5. Heater control knobs.
  6. Washer bag & pump.
  7. Number plate light.
  8. Both sun visors.
  9. Petronix electronic ignition.

As can be seen from the photos the interior and hood are also in excellent order and the engine bay presents very nicely.

I have worked on & sold a good number of Spiders over the years and can honestly say this represents one of the nicest and most genuine examples I have seen to date.

Having completed a trouble free 150 miles with her owner on a round trip from East Sussex to London & on to me in West Sussex on the day she was delivered, she is now ready and raring to go for a new owner to enjoy the Indian Summer we are surely in for over the next couple of months!
