Description

Whenever the subject of old Alfa Romeos comes up so often the response I get is ‘I used to have an  Alfasud when I was a lad’. They evoke so many memories for true petrol heads, combining fine handling, peppy performance from the characterful, raspy flat four and good looks in Ti version, as here, with the lovely ‘pepperpot’ alloys and very ’80’s bodykit. However, due to their renowned propensity to dissolve it’s rare to find any today, let alone as good as this lovely example in what, to my eye, is the best of the 3 colours the Ti Green Cloverleaf was offered.

This particular car has formed part of a large private collection of mostly Italian classics since 2008. However, a change in the focus of the collection means it’s now time for her to find a new home.

One of the major selling points of this particular Sud is the bodywork. She has been repainted some years ago, though sadly no paperwork is present to say when, however it is very clearly a high quality job as the finish is superb. Most Suds have a tick step of paint around the sunroof where they are left in and masked up, but as can be seen in the photo, this one was clearly removed before she was painted. Perhaps more importantly is that, inner wing rails aside, the underside appears to be entirely original with no evidence of welding, almost unheard of on a UK Sud!

Although he has owned her for 15 years she has covered a tiny mileage of around 600 during this time, has been kept largely MOT’d and has enjoyed over £5750 of maintenance in that time, the majority carried out during an extensive ‘going over’ by Alfa specialist Red Motori between 2013 and 2014. This work included:

  1. New water pump & fresh coolant.
  2. New cam belt, tensioners & auxiliary belt.
  3. New boot lid gas struts.
  4. New old stock fuel tank.
  5. New radiator & fan switch.
  6. Fresh coolant.
  7. Braided stainless steel brake hoses.
  8. New brake pipes.
  9. Reconditioned front brake callipers.
  10. New HT leads & distributor cap.
  11. New outer C.V. boots.
  12. Steering rack removed, stripped cleaned, new rack boot and refit.
  13. Both rear wheel bearings replaced.
  14. New clutch slave cylinder.
  15. New clutch kit.
  16. Gearbox stripped, checked, cleaned & rebuilt with new gaskets & seals.
  17. Inner wing rails rebuilt with new metal.

The most recent work was a £600 service in 2022 with:

  1. Fresh oil & filter.
  2. Carbs stripped, cleaned and reassembled.
  3. New spark plugs.
  4. Cooling system flush & fresh coolant.

She was given an advisory free MOT in May 2023.

Although almost no mileage has been covered due to time a major service is now due, to that end our sister company Alex Jupe Motorsport are just carrying out the following so she is ‘ready to go’ for her new owner.

  1. New cam belt kit.
  2. Fresh coolant.
  3. Engine oil & filter.
  4. New brake master cylinder.

She comes complete with an A4 history file containing all paperwork from the current ownership and an invoice for the wheel refurbishment with the previous owner. Also present is the original ‘Alfa Cover’ book pack with associated manuals. An original period correct Pioneer radio is available at extra cost should the new owner wish.
