Description

Not the usual fare for us at AJM Classics, however, this rare Alpina belongs to one of the workshop team at our sister business Alex Jupe Motorsport. In his previous life he spent many years working on the older generation of BMW for his own clients, hence his ownership of this flagship at the time of the E39 range the Alpina B10 V8S. The S signified the longer stroke 4.8 engine producing a massive 510Nm of torque, upgraded front brakes with big 4-piston Brembo callipers and 360mm discs and a ‘full house’ spec of luxury features, all mated to BMW’s excellent 5-speed automatic gearbox. These V8S models were only produced for the final year of B10 production, so consequently are the rarest and most sought after version.

This particular example was specified with many of the favoured options, including the Alpina Blue paint, Lavalina full leather interior, Alpina luggage mat for the boot floor & electric rear blind among them.

She comes complete with an epic history file, the pile of invoices alone being over 1 inch thick and dating back to 2007 starting with those from official UK Alpina dealer Sytner. She has covered some miles in her time, currently just over 193k is recorded, however she has also been maintained regardless of expense. Invoices of note on file include:

  1. A full gearbox rebuild in 2013 at 153k miles.
  2. Alternator refurbishment by Bowker at 158k miles.
  3. Replacement of various cooling system hoses at 159k miles by Bowker BMW.

In 2021/22 she was subject to an extensive mechanical overhaul at huge expense. This work included the following with invoices on file for over £11000.00:

  1. Strip and rebuild of engine using donor V8S 4.8 block & pistons with original heads.
  2. All new genuine BMW main & big end bearings.
  3. New timing chains & guides.
  4. New oil pump.
  5. Complete engine gasket set.
  6. New spark plugs and all fluids.
  7. New correct spec two piece front brake discs & pads, custom made by Tarox.
  8. New front wheel bearings.
  9. New rear suspension upper control arms.
  10. New radiator fan clutch unit.
  11. Specialist restoration of steering wheel leather.
  12. New Bosch battery.

Various other minor issues were attended to during this work, resulting in an advisory free MOT pass in February 2022. Since then she has covered only a few hundred miles, hence the reason she is now for sale as the inheritance of a couple of much older classic project cars from his father mean time is being devoted to bringing those back to life.

Overall she wears her miles well. However, oddly, a previous owner decided to have the BMW bonnet & boot badges removed and smoothed. The bonnet looks fine, but the paint on this section of the boot is flat and has some microblisters visible. There are one or two  minor areas of surface rust, please refer to the photos, but the key areas for the E39 model of the sills and jacking points look to be original and rust free. The rest of the paintwork presents well with an even shine and colour throughout.

On the rare occasion a B10 V8S comes to market they usually command prices around the £20k mark. However, this well sorted example is priced to sell, commensurate with the mileage and minor cosmetic issues that need addressing. She represents an excellent route into ownership of these rare Super Saloons with all the expensive mechanical work taken care of, allowing the new owner to use and enjoy as is or improve at their leisure.

She is supplied with current, advisory free MOT to 21st March 2024, large A4 history file, original Alpina book back and complete BMW fitted tool kit.
