It’s not our usual fare to be offering a project car for sale, however sadly this 75 has had to be abandoned by the owner part way through being recommissioned and is very worthy of being saved and put back on the road, so here she is!
The owner rescued her from a lock up where she had lain idle for 15 years or so, though she had been run up fairly regularly until the then owner moved to New Zealand around 8 years ago.
She has been partly recommissioned, the initial focus having been on getting her running and driving under her own steam again. To that end the following work has been carried out:
- New water pump.
- New cam belt.
- Change of engine oil & filter.
- New air filter.
- New NGK spark plugs.
- Drain off remainder of old fuel.
- New Bosch fuel pump, fuel filter and all fuel hoses under the car.
- Cooling system flush and refill with fresh anti-freeze.
- New clutch master cylinder.
- New clutch slave cylinder.
- New Bosch battery.
With all this done she is now ‘on the key’ and drives, with all gears selecting and the engine purring with no signs of smoke either cold or hot.
However, there is still work to do. The brake master cylinder has failed, so the pedal sinks straight to the floor. Of course this means she cannot be driven. I would expect to replace all brake hoses and the rear callipers as a matter of course after standing so long.
The prop shaft needs overhauling. It was vibration free, until moving her around when a donut let go.
Both gearbox mounts need replacing. Mechanically this should bring her up to a good, useable condition with a lot of the expense already taken care of.
Bodily, as can be seen, she presents surprising well for a car left forgotten about for so long. The exterior could be left ‘as is’ for the time being, or would be a straight forward repaint to bring to show standard with a couple of localised repairs under the rear lights.
Underneath does need some work, however, unlike most 75’s in the UK she has never yet been welded, so there are no botched repairs to deal with and has also avoided layers of underseal, still wearing the factory finishes. The front floor pan/jacking point areas need the usual rust cutting out and new metal letting in, but the majority of the underside is sound with mostly surface rust to clean up, treat and reseal. It does look from underneath as though the rear arches will need attention when the body kit is removed however.
She comes with the V5C and a small file of paperwork with invoices dating from 1991 to 2004, annual MOT’s from her first in 1991 until 2004 and an original UK sales brochure. Also present is the service coupon booklet showing the original owner to be Alfa Romeo GB and containing entirely Alfa Romeo main dealer stamps from the initial PDI check to a service at 89067 miles in the year 2000.
With the best 75 3.0’s now nudging £30k this represents a sensibly priced entry to Busso ownership in the last of the ‘real’ RWD Alfa’s with plenty of budget left to complete the work already begun.
Should the new owner wish we can arrange for the car to be completed to your own specifications through our sister business A Jupe Motorsports Ltd.
